'One dead' in foggy motorway pile-up in UK

AT least one person has died in a 30-car motorway pile-up in fog in southeast England.

PARAMEDICS are assessing more than 30 people, with fire crews, police and air and road ambulances at the scene.

Thames Valley Police said at least one person had died, the BBC reported. Long queues of traffic had built up following the crash, which happened on the M40 in Oxfordshire on Saturday morning. Pictures posted on Twitter show cars at a standstill in thick fog on the motorway, while drivers and passengers stand around. Forecasters said Oxfordshire was hit by fog, which would have hampered visibility. Stretches of the motorway have been closed. An ambulance spokeswoman says it is too early to know the nature and severity of the injuries suffered by drivers.
